- Emergency = Police (191), Tourist Police (1155)

II. Transportation
Taxi
The best(easiest) way to get to the venue is by taxi. You need to tell the taxi to take you to Sripatum University. To be understood more clearly : “Mor-Sri-Pa-Tum”( Sripatum University) .. near .. “Ka-Sed-Sart”..on “Tha-Non-Pa-Hon-Yo-Thin”(Pahonyothin Road) .. close to .. "Krom-Pa-Mai"(The Forest Department building).
As a last resort print this and show to taxi :-
มหาวิทยาลัยศรีปทุม ใกล้ๆ กับกรมป่าไม้ / มหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์
Warning : When taking taxi from airport, head straight to the taxi stand outside the terminal, don't take any offer from anyone pitching their services. Taxis will charge you the meter plus B50 for the airport pickup and any toll fees. (You must pay the toll fees as you go--the driver won't pay then charge you.) Taxi from airport should cost around 400 baht in total (~300 on the meter, 100 baht toll fees). Always make sure taxis charge you the "meter" fare, there are many taxis who overcharge the non-meter price.
Public Transport
- When coming from airport, take bus no. 554 from the bus terminal to Carrefour (คาร์ฟู) Ram-in-tra. Then get on the bus no. 512 or 26 to Sripatum University. The university would be on your left side.
- Via MRT (Subway), Phaholyothin station (Exit no ?? ). Then you can take a bus on Pahonyothin Rd side (Walk on the crossover to Central Ladprao. Take the escalator and walk straight. You'll find a long bus stop.) Bus No. you can take: 34 39 59 107 129 185 503 512. The Sripatum University will be on you RIGHT hand-side after you pass Kasetsart University. Or simply take a taxi, which will cost you around 60~80 baht.
- Via BTS (Sky Train), Mo Chit station, on the end of Sukhumvit Line. Take the bus that's going outbound (Chatuchak Park side), then ride on 34, 39, 59, 503. Or simply take a taxi, which will cost you around 60~80 baht.
III. Accommodation
If you are arriving on Saturday(May 23rd) and leaving on Sunday(May 24th) then there is no need to look for accommodation since we would all be staying at the venue overnight. In case you are arriving before, or leaving later, you have the following options:-
- Find someone who lives in Bangkok to share a room with. Or check with fellow local barcampers, some of us are offering free accomodation, please check Barcampers Sharing Bed, Sofa and Other Space for Visiting Barcampers
- Post on the Google group mentioning for which days you need an accommodation, then perhaps someone in Bangkok can put you up at their home or you may even find other visitors and share a hotel room.
- Hotels Near the Venue: Xen Suites Bangkok Hotel, Bangkok :$20+ Louis Tavern Hotel, Bangkok :$30+ Maruay Garden Hotel, Bangkok : $41+ check http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/bangkok.html then click din daeng.
- Special Deal : Muray Garden Hotel has a special deal for guests of Sripatum University. It would cost 1,400 Baht ($41) for one person in a room, and 1600 Baht ($46) for 2 people in a room. Breakfast is included, however the charge to use wifi is 80 Baht($2.3) / hour. This hotel is only 3 bus stops from SPU, so its a long walk or 40 to 50 Baht(<$2) by taxi. <-- we are checking up on this.
IV. Communications
You can buy SIM cards from any Seven-11 (or other convienent stores). The following options are available. 1) AIS(a.k.a. 1-2-Call) : SIM cost xx Baht, Preloaded value : , GPRS : xx Baht/hour 2) DTAC(a.k.a. Happy) : SIM cost xx Baht, Preloaded value : , GPRS : xx Baht/hour 3) TRUE(a.k.a. truemove) : SIM cost xx Baht, Preloaded value : , GPRS : xx Baht/hour
For Guest House type, I'm (@sajal) checking with someone if we can get a good deal somewhere in the city. Apparently it makes no sense to stay(fri/sun night) near venue since Saturday night would be spent at the venue itself.
I'll give them an estimate of 20 - 30 people.
